STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

My name is Laurel Whitehead and I am the Student Assistance Counselor (SAC) at Reynolds Middle School. As the SAC, I am a resource for students who may be dealing with non-academic concerns that may interfere with their ability to achieve in school. The role of the SAC is to implement prevention, intervention, support, and referral to students with areas of high-risk behaviors (ie: substance use, self-harm, personal struggles, mental health concerns). I provide a safe place for your student to discuss any problems they may be experiencing.

As the SAC, I play a vital role in providing assistance to students. All services are confidential, unless you're in immediate danger. Services are voluntary unless a student is under administrative contract. I aim to provide all students with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to cope with these obstacles and to develop a healthy lifestyle.

Some issues I address include:

Substance abuse by the student, student's family member, and/or peers

  • Bullying
  • Stress/Anxiety
  • Anger Management
  • Death & Grief
  • Self-injurious behaviors
  • Peer mediation/Conflict resolution
  • Sexual orientation/Identity
  • Family issues/Divorce
